EADS BASEBALL CONTINUES TO CLEAN HOUSE

On Tuesday, April 1 the Eads Baseball team hosted Cheyenne Wells in a key District 4 match up. The Eagles came away with a sweep over the Tigers getting the first game, 4-0, and then exploding for a big 19-4 win in the nightcap.

Eads is 5-0 on the season while the two losses dropped the Tigers to a 3-3 overall season record.

The first game was a good one as both teams had strong pitchers on the mound to start the game.

For the Tigers it would be the powerful arm of Bryson Hyle, and Eads matched him with southpaw Case Nelson.

The Eagle bats chipped away little by little on Hyle getting one run in the bottom of the first and one more in the bottom of the second inning.

In the bottom of the first Hyle walked Karsten Buller with one out. Adyn Hough then hit a single past second base moving Buller into scoring position. Spencer Uhland then pounded out a single to left field bringing Buller home.

In the bottom of the second inning Hyle would get the first batter but then walk Shaine Winder. Winder advanced to third base on a ground out for two outs on the field. That brought up Buller who singled past short stop scoring Winder.

Eads scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Tigers' Marcus Bogenhagen on the mound. A couple of errors and a single by Buller loaded up the bases for Uhland. Uhland then arrived on an error scoring one, and Johnny Vasquez hit a fielder's choice that brought home the second run.

Uhland would drive the line up for Eads going 2-for-3 on the day. Buller and Uhland each collected two hits. Winder stole two bases.

Nelson had a tremendous game throwing a five-inning no-hitter giving up no runs, walking three, and striking out 8 Tigers.

Hyle took the loss for the Tigers working through three innings and giving up 4 hits and 2 earned runs, walked four batters, and struck out four.

Bogenhagen threw one inning in relief giving up one hit and two unearned runs, walked none, and struck out zero.

Eads jumped out to a big lead in the night cap and never looked back winning the contest, 19-4. They would score two in the first, 7 in the second, 7 more in the third inning, and 3 more in the fourth.

Eads got on board in the bottom of the first inning after Adyn Hough doubled down the left field line, and Spencer Uhland singled to center field, each scoring one run.

Eads lit up the board again in the bottom of the second inning when they scored 7 runs off of 7 hits. Hough singled, scoring two runs, Case Nelson drew a walk with the bases loaded, scoring one run, Jayson Bletzacker singled, scoring one run, Weston Mitchek hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Shaine Winder singled, scoring one run, and Stockton Mitchek singled, scoring one run.

Then again in the bottom of the third the Eagles pounded out four runs scoring 7 runs. That string of runs started with Vasquez who singled, scoring one run, Nelson tripled, scoring two runs, Bletzacker doubled, scoring one run, an error committed by the Tigers resulted in two more runs, and a second error resulted in another run.

Adyn Hough was the winning pitcher for Eads as the sophomore went the distance on the mound working through 4 innings. Hough would give up three hits and four runs, all unearned, walked 2 batters, and struck out 5.

Cheyenne Wells utilized a bullpen of four hurlers with Kooper Brossman taking the loss. Brossman went one and one third innings giving up 6 hits, 8 earned runs, four walks, and struck out zero.

Trevin Smith was on the mound for two thirds of an inning giving up 6 hits and five runs, walking one and striking out none. Bogenhagen spent a one third of an inning on the mound giving up one hit and 3 runs. Brennan Framel closed for the Tigers throwing for one inning.

Eads' powerful offense pounded out 15 hits in the nightcap. Uhland continued his superiority at the plate going 4-for-4 to lead Eads in hits. Hough and Nelson each drove in three runs. Bletzacker, Vasquez, Winder, and Stockton Mitchek each collected multiple hits for the Eads Eagles.

For the Tigers it was Framel who provided the pop for the Tiger offense as the senior hit in two runs going 2-for-2 in the game.

Eads will travel to Baca County on Friday, April 4 for one 7-inning game. They will then host Wiley for two five-inning games next Tuesday, April 8.

The Tigers will host a non-conference double-header contest with Elbert on Friday, April 4 starting at 4:00 pm. On Tuesday, April 8 they have an important assignment when they welcome the red-hot McClave crew to Tiger Field.
